A "comedian" joked that Puerto Rica was a "floating island of garbage" while opening for Trump at Madison Square Garden

Ana Navarro and Sunny Hostin did not hold back when discussing the racist jokes made during Donald Trump‘s rally in New York City on Sunday. During Monday’s episode of The View, the two Latina hosts slammed Tony Hinchcliffe’s jokes as he opened for Trump with a horrid comedy set.

During Sunday’s rally, Hinchcliffe made headlines for describing Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage,” saying that Latinos “love making babies,” and joked that Black people “carve watermelons” instead of pumpkins.

“[Hinchcliffe] didn’t just make jokes about Puerto Ricans. He made jokes about Blacks [with the] whole trope about watermelons,” Navarro said. “He made a vile joke about Latinos that we can’t even put on daytime TV. So today, we are all in this together.”

A campaign adviser for Trump distanced himself from Hinchcliffe’s comments about Puerto Rico and Latinos, telling The Hill that the “joke does not reflect the views of President Trump or the campaign.”

During The View, Navarro shared her anger with Trump, not condemning the comedian’s comments himself. Meanwhile, Sunny Hostin, who is Puerto Rican, directed some pointed words toward Trump, noting how Boricuas are more likely to participate in the military, and listed battleground states with many Puerto Ricans.

“This Puerto Rican has something to say about the island I love, where my family is from. Puerto Rico is trash? We are Americans, Donald Trump,” Hostin said, later adding, “My fellow Puerto Ricans, trash collection day is November 5, 2024. Don’t forget it.”
