Actress' first role in over a decade — and the movie where Foxx suffered medical emergency - arrives on streaming service on Jan. 17
After a decade-long acting hiatus, Cameron Diaz is back in action, literally, alongside Jamie Foxx in the Netflix spy comedy Back in Action.
The streaming service has shared the first trailer for the film, which finds Diaz and Foxx as married-with-children inactive CIA operatives thrust back into the spy business, kids in tow.
“For the first time in a really long time, I felt alive again. I felt like the bitch again,” Diaz says in the trailer, a remark that could double both for her character’s return to spy work and the actress’ return to movies.
Back in Action, Diaz’s first role since 2014’s Annie, hits Netflix on Jan. 17. The actress will next reprise her voice role of Princess Fiona in Shrek 5 and will appear in the Jonah Hill-directed Outcome.

Production on the film was delayed back in April when Foxx was hospitalized with an undisclosed medical condition, an incident that the actor details at length in his upcoming Netflix comedy special What Had Happened Was…, premiering Dec. 10, just five weeks before Back in Action.
“I needed the stage and an audience that was made up of nothing but pure love and that’s what you were,” Foxx previously said of his special. “When people ask me is this a stand-up comedy show I say no it’s an artistic explanation. Of something that went terribly wrong, but thanks to the great people in Atlanta, especially Piedmont Hospital, you enabled me to come back and be on stage and do what I love to do the most.”
