Earlier this week, the SNL cast member posted a TikTok stating that Musk made multiple cast members, including herself, "burst into tears" during table reads for his hosting gig
Elon Musk‘s hosting stint on Saturday Night Live in 2021 wasn’t all that memorable, at least not for anyone other than the group of comedians and writers who had to work with him on it. Chloe Fineman shared earlier this week that her primary memory from the appearance was when he made herself and a number of other cast members “burst into tears” during table reads a few days before they were set to go live. In response to Fineman’s claim, Musk made no effort of denial, instead doubling down with a recount of his own.
“Frankly, it was only on the Thursday before the Saturday that ANY of the sketches generated laughs. I was worried,” Musk wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “I was like damn my SNL appearance is going to be so fucking unfunny that it will make a crackhead sober!! But then it worked out in the end.”
Additionally, Musk boosted two accounts that shared rebuttals to Fineman sharing her experience. One wrote: “She’s mad because Elon Musk didn’t find her jokes funny. Saved you 5 minutes from having to read the article.” Another added: “She’s a professional comedy writer who cries when someone doesn’t think her jokes are funny? That’s funny.”
Fineman shared her version of events in a since-deleted TikTok. She posted it in response to Musk criticizing SNL, saying the show has been “dying slowly for years, as they become increasingly out of touch with reality” after Dana Carvey debuted his impression on the show’s first post-election episode.

“I was like, I’m not gonna say anything. But I’m like, no, if you’re gonna go on your platform and be rude, like, guess what? You made I, Chloe Fineman, burst into tears because I stayed up all night writing the sketch,” Fineman said. “I was so excited, I came in, I asked if you had any questions, and you stared at me like you were firing me from Tesla and were like, ‘It’s not funny.’”
She added: “OK, I just saw some news article about Elon Musk being like butt-hurt about ‘SNL’ and his impression, but I’m, like, you’re clearly watching the show. Like, what are you talking about? And I’m like, you know what? I’m gonna come out and say at long last that I’m the cast member that he made cry. And he’s the host that made someone cry. Maybe there are others.”
