It’s been 30 years since Friends premiered on television screens in America, and Warner Bros. Entertainment is marking the occasion with a special-edition 4K release of the comedy series.
Friends: The Complete Series features all 236 original broadcast episodes spread over 25 Blu-ray discs, with the episodes remastered and released in 4K Ultra HD quality for the first time. The set also includes more than two hours of bonus content, including behind-the-scenes featurettes, blooper reels and more.
One of the most beloved sitcoms of all time, Friends aired on NBC from 1994 to 2004. Starring Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer, the show was nominated for 62 Primetime Emmy Awards over its run, taking home Best Comedy Series in 2002. Friends was also nominated for ten Golden Globes and 14 Screen Actors Guild Awards. Its finale on May 6, 2004 was watched by more than 52 million viewers in the U.S., making it the fifth most-watched series finale in television history.
While there is much to celebrate, the 30th anniversary of the show will also be a solemn occasion, after the passing of Perry last year. The actor had just released a highly-personal memoir just months before his death, and it continues to remain on Amazon’s bestsellers lists online.
The last time the entire cast was together on screen, meantime, was for a Friends reunion special, which aired on HBO Max in 2021.
In a press release, Warner Bros. notes that “the beloved TV series continues to hold an enduring place in popular culture and hearts worldwide. With its witty humor, relatable characters, and memorable catchphrases, Friends transcends generations with its universal appeal, making it a classic that continues to bring joy and laughter to fans around the world.”
