Laufey Takes It ‘From the Start’ in ‘Night at the Symphony: Hollywood Bowl’ Concert Film Preview

Laufey enraptured nearly 18,000 people during a headlining performance with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in August. The musician took the stage at the Hollywood Bowl and delivered more than two dozen songs, 11 on her own and 15 with the Philharmonic. All the while, the cameras were rolling. On Dec. 6, the concert film Laufey‘s A Night at the Symphony: Hollywood Bowl will be released in select theaters and IMAX.

In the first preview of the upcoming film, Laufey commands the crowd as she swirls through “From the Start,” the final song in her set and her most popular release to date. The record appears on her second studio album, Bewitched. The 25-year-old artist performed nearly the entire record alongside a mix of songs from her debut, Everything I Know About Love. She also covered classics from Keely Smith and Jimmy Van Heusen.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to present my music with the LA Philharmonic,” Laufey shared in a statement. “To be able to bring that concert to people way beyond L.A. and the Hollywood Bowl is so meaningful to me, especially as I come from so many different parts of the world, which have all played a part in inspiring my work and artistic journey.”

Last year, Laufey released the live album and concert video A Night at the Symphony, which was recorded with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. “Playing with the orchestra is so much fun because I grew up playing classical music, and I grew up within the walls of an orchestra,” she told Billboard Phillippines earlier this year. “I always had this dream of blending that symphonic sound with my own music, especially since it’s something that has really stood the test of time.”

She added: “It’s some of the earliest music that we can think of, and it continued on with film scores and has stayed as a significant part of music after all this time. So I think that the experience of going to see a symphony is one that’s a little bit harder to access nowadays. It feels further and further away from the grasp of the audience –– especially for Gen Z.”

Laufey’s a Night At the Symphony: Hollywood Bowl was directed by Sam Wrench, who recently helmed Taylor Swift’s concert film capturing the Eras tour. “Capturing Laufey’s debut concert at the Hollywood Bowl was a dream; cinematically sublime with a scale and intimacy that is so evident in Laufey’s music,” Wrench shared. “I can’t wait for everyone to experience this on the big screen.”

Tickets will be available beginning Wednesday, October 30.
