The first of three NFL matches taking place in London gets underway at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon between the Minnesota Vikings and the New York Jets.

The Vikings are one of only two teams heading into week five this weekend with a 100% record with four wins from four, alongside two-time defending Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs.

Kevin O’Connell led his to a 1st place finish in the NFC North, their first in five years, in his first season as a head coach in 2022 following his move from the Super Bowl-winning LA Rams side as offensive co-ordinator but fell at the first hurdle in the Wild Card stage in the playoffs.

Last season brought a regression in form though with the Vikings finishing third in their division with a 7-10 record, and O’Connell’s side have already won over half of that win tally just four games into the new season, with the aid of new quarterback Sam Darnold.

Darnold was selected third overall in the 2018 draft by the New York Jets, who he will coming up against in the purple of Minnesota for the first time in London on Sunday, but could only manage 11 combined wins in three seasons with the Jets, and his time with the franchise ended with 2-10 season in 2020.

The Jets make the trip to London with a 2-2 record from their opening four games after a narrow 10-9 defeat to the Denver Broncos last weekend brought an end to their two-match win streak against the Tennessee Titans and the New England Patriots.

It’s been 14 years now since the Jets last managed to reach the playoffs, and 22 since their last divisional title in the AFC East, a run Robert Saleh’s side will be looking to put to an end this season with Aaron Rodgers finally pulling the strings from quarterback.

The four-time MVP joined from the Green Bay Packers last year but suffered a season-ending Achilles injury just four snaps into his Jets career, but has started all four games so far this season.

The Vikings have a 3-0 record in London games, the joint-best with the New York Giants, beating the Pittsburgh Steelers at Wembley in 2013, the Cleveland Browns at Twickenham in 2017 before a thrilling win over the New Orleans Saints at Tottenham a couple of years ago.

Saturday will be the Jets’ second venture into London, winning their opening match at Wembley in a divisional clash against the Miami Dolphins in 2015, before losing out to the Atlanta Falcons at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in 2021.

Minnesota have won their last three matches against the Jets, the first of which ended a seven match losing streak against Sunday’s opponents.
