Who Is in the NWSL finals?
The NWSL final will take place today, at 8 PM ET, with the Orlando Pride facing off against the Washington Spirit. The Orlando Pride holds the NWSL Shield, awarded to the first-place team at the end of the regular season, and this match will be the team’s first appearance in a NWSL final. The Washington Spirit have appeared twice, winning once in 2021. They clinched the #2 spot at the end of the regular season.
The Playoffs saw the Pride defeat the Chicago Red Stars and the KC Current to clinch a spot in the finals, while the Washington Spirit beat Bay FC and reigning champions NY/NJ Gotham FC to earn their spot. As a relatively small league with 14 clubs, the NWSL does not have conferences or divisions — instead, the playoff matchups are decided by standings.
Like the SuperBowl, the NWSL Championship is played at a predetermined location, so no team typically has a home advantage. This year, the match will take place at the CPKC Stadium. The regular season home of the Kansas City Current, it’s the first stadium in the world built exclusively for a women’s professional sports team.
In addition to the match, the final will feature performances by Melissa Ethridge, Tori Kelly, and Reyna Roberts.
