P-Lo curated For the Soil, featuring Bay Area stars Saweetie, 24kGoldn, G-Eazy, Symba, and more

Saweetie, Too Short, E-40, P-Lo, and more Bay Area stars are joining forces for the Golden State Warriors. Rolling Stone can exclusively announce that the NBA team’s entertainment division will release For the Soil, a musical project of NorCal rappers, on Feb. 12, just in time for All-Star Weekend in the city.

“Golden State Entertainment and the Warriors are leading the way in bridging music and sports, and I feel honored to have worked on this track with them,” P-Lo, who curated the album, tells Rolling Stone. “Bringing this vision to life with such legends and tying it to a team and culture I deeply admire has been unforgettable.”

On Thursday, the Warriors dropped the project’s single, “Had To,” a rap track starring legends E-40, Too Short, and P-Lo. The video catches the trio of stars enjoying tomahawk steaks at SF’s Miller & Lux while rapping over a quintessential Bay Area beat.

“Game over. Now I’m celebrating. Another win? I keep them hella hating,” raps Too Short, sneaking in his signature “Biiiitch” later in the track. “[We] had to drop this one for The Bay,” E-40 tells Rolling Stone. “‘Had To’ is that real player’s anthem, straight from the soil to the stars, so it’s only right we bring the energy!”

Also on the nine-track project are songs such as “Too Wavy” with local artists Michael Sneed and Seiji Odi alongside “Mood” singer 24KGoldn, “Dubs in the House” with rappers AllBlack and 22nd Jim, and the packed lead single “Players Holiday 25,” which includes G-Eazy, Saweetie, Thuy, Larry John, and Kamaiyah.

The new project comes after P-Lo and Jauz linked up for “Don’t Lose Your Head” in October, which sampled Bay Area rap great Zion I and serves as a tip-off anthem for the Warriors’ season. “It’s designed to keep Warriors fans moving without losing their heads in the moment,” Jauz told Rolling Stone at the time. (The Warriors are the only NBA team with a record label and entertainment division.)

The Warriors are scheduled to host the 2025 All-Star Weekend at the Chase Center on Feb. 16. It’s the first time the Bay Area has hosted the four-team tournament since 2000. San Francisco will also host a three-day concert series featuring Zedd and Flo Rida on Feb. 14, Noah Kahan on Feb. 15, and 2 Chainz and the Chainsmokers on Feb. 16.
