Gracie Abrams on Taylor Swift’s Pop Stardom: No Man Has ‘Come Close’

Gracie Abrams, who opened for Taylor Swift‘s Eras Tour during the North American leg, touted her pop star bestie in a cover issue for Cosmopolitan. Abrams called Swift a “brilliant businessperson” and “genius writer,” in the interview released Wednesday, adding no one has reached her level of pop stardom.

“She’s a grounded human being who makes time for everyone in her life,” Abrams told the magazine. “It’s been really cool to be in the orbit of a person like her. There’s also nothing that comes close to what she has done.”

During The Eras Tour, Swift shattered the record for highest grossing global tour bringing in $2.2 billion after a nearly two-year run. Swift performed her decades-spanning catalog of original and re-recorded songs for more than 10 million people, many of whom wore outfits that reflected their favorite projects. And despite a sour response from some critics to her latest project The Tortured Poets Department, the album garnered six Grammy nominations. Among the nominations includes Abrams single “Us” with Swift, which earned a Best Pop Duo/Group Performance nod.

“People will still gaslight her and her capabilities and all this shit,” Abrams continued. “But please point me to one man who has come close to defining pop culture in this way. There is nothing! But people are not ready for that conversation.”

After opening and performing alongside Swift on The Eras Tour, Abrams announced The Secret of Us Deluxe tour in December. The tour follows her recent 18-date trek, which concluded in October. Her new tour kicks off in Boston on July 24 with additional stops in Toronto; New York; Los Angeles; Morrison, Colorado; and Mexico City. Role Model will performing as a special guest throughout the tour. Abrams, who considers herself a homebody, also told Cosmo about the fun she had at Charli XCX’s birthday party.

“I don’t party often, but at Charli’s birthday, I was really, genuinely, sincerely excited and emotional about seeing people I hadn’t seen in a really long time,” she said. “It was heaven. And there was dancing. I wish it was her birthday every single week.”
