Presidents Cup 2024 LIVE: Friday’s pairings and matches, scores, tee times and how to follow as Internationals welcome USA to Royal Montreal

5 days ago 12

The 2024 Presidents Cup will take place in Montreal this week as Team International look to end the USA’s dominance in the event.

The Internationals have only won one of the 15 events held so far and suffered a heavy loss at Quail Hollow in 2022.

Home favourite and 2003 Masters champion Mike Weir is the International captain this year and has a host of big names at his disposal.

But USA captain Jim Furyk will also have a star-studded team including the best two players in world golf – Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele.

And the Americans got off to the perfect start on Thursday, winning all of the opening fourball matches to take an early 5-0 lead.

The Internationals will need to hit back quickly but that won’t be easy on Friday in the foursomes which is traditionally the USA’s strongest format.

Presidents Cup 2024: Date and start time

The 2024 Presidents Cup is being held at Royal Montreal Golf Club in Quebec, Canada.

It is taking place from Thursday, September 26 to Sunday, September 29.

The Royal Montreal is the oldest golf club in North America and celebrated its 150th anniversary year in 2023.

It held the Presidents Cup in 2007 when Jack Nicklaus’ Team USA won 19 1⁄2 – 14 1⁄2.

Presidents Cup 2024: The teams

The two teams were fully confirmed on Tuesday, September 3.

Weir’s International team is made up of six qualifiers and six captain’s picks.

The six qualifiers made the team via the Presidents Cup International Team Points List, which is based on the Official World Golf Ranking.

Hideki Matsuyama, Sungjae Im and Adam Scott lead the team while the emergence of Tom Kim will be a vital weapon as will Jason Day rediscovery his best.

Weir has then called up a trio of Canadian players in Corey Conners, Taylor Pendrith and Mackenzie Hughes.

For Team USA, Furyk also has had six captain’s picks to add to the six qualifiers who earned the most FedEx Cup points.

Scheffler and Schauffele are the star names while fans will be excited to see Sahith Theegala in action after he was the sixth and final qualifier.

Keegan Bradley, who will captain USA’s Ryder Cup side at Bethpage Black next year, has been selected as have Tony Finau, Russell Henley and 2023 Open champion Brian Harman.

Presidents Cup 2024: The format

Unlike the Ryder Cup, the Presidents Cup is played across four days and includes four sets of team matches and 12 singles on Sunday.

The teams will play for a total of 30 points across the event.

Fourball matches see teams of two compete against each other with each golfer playing his own ball. The lowest score across the four players on each hole wins.

Foursome sees each duo take alternate shots to complete the hole.

Each player is required to play at least one match before Sunday’s singles which will involve all 24 players.

The teams for each day’s play will be announced shortly before each session.
