Timothée Chalamet Calls Up His Lookalikes for ‘SNL’ Backup

Timothée Chalamet just wants to focus on the music for his upcoming Saturday Night Live double-duty gig. On Saturday, the actor will serve as both as the show’s host and musical guest. In order to juggle the responsibilities of both roles, Chalamet called up some backup: the dudes from his lookalike competition.

“I’ve never done this before. I’m having to be SNL host and musical guest in the same week so it’s a lot of work,” the actor explains in a new teaser for the episode. “I brought in some help to cover with all the hosting duties,” he says before the camera pans to show four men dressed for various of Chalamet’s previous acting roles. The lookalikes include a Willy Wonka Timmy, an A Complete Unknown Timmy as Bob Dylan, one dressed up as Timmy at that movie’s premiere, and a street style Timmy. Chalamet even sends one of the faux-Timmys to take his spot during an appearance on the Tonight Show.

Last fall, in-person celebrity lookalike contests in major cities like New York and Chicago went viral online. Crowds gathered to watch as people competed to resemble some of the most popular celebrities, including Chalamet. The actor surprisingly showed up for his own contest in Washington Square Park, which more than 2,500 people RSVPed to. Since then, Chalamet has continued to lean into the concept.

In December, the actor’s team offered to pay the organizer of the contest after he was fined $500 for hosting a public event without a ticket. Chalamet also met and took a picture with the winner of his lookalike competition, Miles Mitchell, on the Golden Globes red carpet. Even though Chalamet has supported the lookalike concept, it doesn’t appear that any of the actual contestants, or the winner, made their way into the Saturday Night Live teaser.

While this week’s episode is Chalamet’s third appearance on Saturday Night Live, it will be his first singing performance on live television following his live singing debut in A Complete Unknown. But rest assured, he’s got some help with his backups. In the promo video, Chalamet is confident as he says, “All things considered, it should be a great show.”
