‘Comeback will be silly’ – Nick Kyrgios transforms into influencer to hype fans for tennis return

Nick Kyrgios has teased an exciting return to tennis on social media, after almost 500 days away from the court.

The Australian star has played just one competitive match in two years due to persistent knee and wrist injuries, but has now built up his sporting comeback with an encouraging Instagram post.

Having recently confirmed his plans to return in time for the Australian Open in January, Kyrgios shared a glimpse into his route back to competitive action in a ‘Day in the Life’ style video.

Uploading the post alongside the caption: “Day in the life, full influencer voice over for you all,” the 29-year-old shared footage from a recent training day, complete with his own commentary.

The compilation of clips begins with Kyrgios showcasing the impressive sports cars in his driveway, featuring his Lamborghini and a Subaru WRX belonging to his brother.

Footage then shows him taking part in a gym workout, before heading on to the court for a practice session.

He looks in strong shape as he carries out various strength and conditioning exercises, and appears to be hitting the ball well.

And his sharpness in the footage is not lost on Kyrgios, who made full use of the voice over to sing his own praises and build up anticipation ahead of his comeback.

Talking fans through each of his exercises, the big personality comments on his physical condition: “Got some decent size on those shoulders there, we’re getting bigger. Comeback is gonna be silly.”

He then turned his attention to his performance during practice, and teased a return to his very best form.

Kyrgios says of himself: “Kygs was on one today.

Highlighting his prowess, he continues: “I don’t think I lost a set today, look at the footwork, look at the change of direction, the emotion. Backhand is looking as clean as ever.

“I’m definitely playing how I was playing in 2022, ready to get back out there and chop people, and give free lessons.”

Kyrgios’ fighting talk comes immediately after he fuelled speculation that his return to tennis may only be for a short period.

In an Instagram post uploaded a day earlier, the enigmatic figure wrote: “Tennis … damn … it’s been A CRAZY JOURNEY!!!! It all started because of you. FOREVER GRATEFUL. I love all my FANS.”

He then teased: “There are only a few chapters left.”

Kyrgios has talked openly about retirement throughout his career, and admitted in an interview last December that in an ideal world he would have already called time on his playing days.

His last official clash came at the Stuttgart Open on June 13 2023, where he was beaten by China’s Yibing Wu 7-5 6-3.

But Kyrgios latest social media upload would suggest that he is now intent on putting his recent injury hell behind him, and rediscovering the form which saw him reach the 2022 Wimbledon final.

Despite boasting undeniable raw talent, Kyrgios previously struggled to deliver on the biggest stage, until he reached his first major final at the All England Club, eventually losing to Novak Djokovic in a tight four-set encounter.

He also lifted a doubles Grand Slam title in the same year, lifting the 2022 Australian Open title alongside compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis.
