Lucy Dacus, one third of boygenius, previewed a new song that she “dedicated to lesbians” as a special guest during Julien Baker‘s show Tuesday. After wrapping the unnamed song in celebration of International Lesbian Day, bandmate Baker joined Dacus onstage for a duet to “Going Going Gone” and “Night Shift,” two singles Dacus released in 2021 and 2017 respectively.

Baker had originally planned to perform in New York for three consecutive nights, but she added a fourth date after falling ill during her performance last Sunday. Dacus appeared onstage to rapturous applause Sunday, only to announce the unfortunate news to the crowd.

“I have, actually, sad news, which is that totally unexpectedly Julien rushed off the stage and is sick and is throwing up,” Dacus said, adding that Baker gave her permission to tell the crowd. “So the show is not gonna keep happening. She can’t just — you know. Nobody here wants that. Thanks for understanding.”

During the make-up show, which was offered to fans who experienced an abbreviated Sunday performance, Dacus performed an acoustic set featuring additional singles  “Hot & Heavy,” “VBS,” and “Trust.”

Among the two songs, one detailed a fading love. “Sometimes it makes me feel worse/Used to think that it was magic/Now I’m sure that it’s a curse,” Baker sang during the Saturday New York show.

Baker kickstarted her North American tour in September. During a three-night performance in Chicago, she debuted two new singles  “Middle Children” and “High in the Basement.” After an extended tour stay in New York, Baker will perform for three nights in San Francisco, followed by three additional shows in Los Angeles.
