Micah Richards ripped into by Jamie Carragher on CBS Sports as he plays his worst Aston Villa highlights

Jamie Carragher cheekily reminded his co-pundit Micah Richards of some moments to forget during his spell at Aston Villa.

Richards signed for Villa in 2015 after a ten-year stint at Manchester City, making 31 appearances before leaving in 2019 and subsequently retiring.

And five years on from his departure, the former defender was back on punditry duty for CBS Sports Golazo for their coverage of the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Villa’s home clash against Bayern Munich, in which they secured a famous 1-0 win, gave the panel the chance to reflect on club legends beforehand, including Brian Little and Dion Dublin.

However, Carragher was on hand to poke fun at Richards as he said: “They haven’t always been blessed with the greatest of centre-backs, Aston Villa.”

“Big Meeks, let’s look at his numbers,” added the Liverpool legend, with the screen showing the ex-Villa man’s statistics at the club.

“A man who famously burst onto the scene, so let’s have a little look here. Four years at Villa Park, games missed, 142. I mean, unused sub, 41.”

Carragher then called for a video clip to be played in order to criticise Richards’ poor defending against Southampton in 2016, and said: “I mean look at the distance between him and [Dusan] Tadic!

“He runs back but he’s jogging back, look at Tadic sprinting behind him. It goes in the goal, he’s watching it.”

Carragher wasn’t done there as he brought up another incident, with Richards’ error against Everton now coming under the spotlight.

“Against Everton this time, look he goes back, he thinks he’s the goalkeeper! He’s playing everybody onside and then he just lets [Romelu] Lukaku score exactly in the positions he just was!”

“Now he wants to step out as a ball-playing centre-back,” Carragher then said over a clip of Richards stumbling over the ball against Arsenal.

“And look he doesn’t run back, he watches, he waits, and it’s that man Mikel Arteta, the Arsenal manager right now [who scores].”

Carragher’s final clip was a Richards appearance away at Norwich, and the Liverpool legend said: “And then against really poor opposition, Norwich. He allows space, cross in, he doesn’t react and look, hands behind the back.

“‘I’m guilty your honour, it’s me!’ I mean look at your hands behind your back, I mean, Big Meeks?!”

“I was in a bad place guys…” Richards said as Carragher, Thierry Henry and Kate Scott looked towards him for a response.

However, he triumphantly backed his career efforts by showing them a clip of a goal he scored for City away at Villa.

Richards said: “But I did score a goal at Villa Park! Ah here we go, talk us through this then Jamie, look at the leap!

“Look at that, get out the way! Timing, perfection, bullet header,” he added. “Look at this, look at the loving from the City fans, the City faithful! ‘Come here you, give us a hug!'”

Richards saw the funny side of the things despite Carragher’s little jibe, with Big Meeks still able to look back on a career that saw him win the Premier League and the FA Cup.
