Chris Eubank Jr has his eyes on a potential huge crossover boxing clash with Conor McGregor.
Eubank Jr is one of Britain’s biggest names in the sport, and is set to end a one-year boxing hiatus when he takes on Kamil Szeremeta on October 12.
He has held talks with a whole host of superstar names over potential mega-fights in recent months including Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford.
But he has now astonishingly revealed that there is possibility of a showdown between himself and UFC superstar McGregor.
Eubank Jr has explained how the talks were sparked after the pair partied during their first meeting in Dubai.
He told DAZN: “This was a crazy night out in Dubai. Conor was very drunk.
“And we had a great time. You know, there’s actually been talks of me and him actually having a boxing match at some point.
“The fans have said that they want to see that. How interesting that would be.
“That’s definitely something that I’m open to exploring, let’s just say that.”
Eubank Jr and McGregor would certainly be an intriguing proposition, although ‘Next Gen’ would be huge favourite to emerge the winner.
It is one of the more realistic crossover bouts given McGregor has explored a return to the UFC octagon at 170lbs, an achievable weight for the Briton.
McGregor has also made a switch across to the squared circle previously, having lost to Floyd Mayweather in the second highest-grossing pay-per-view fight ever in 2017.
He is a huge name and there would likely be significant interest if he was to return to the sweet science in a second professional appearance.
It certainly cannot be ruled out, given he has even teased a switch to his own bare-knuckle boxing promotion BKFC in the future.
The Irish star hasn’t fought in combat sports since 2021 after breaking his leg in a UFC defeat to Dustin Poirier.
He was set to return against Michael Chandler in July but was forced to withdraw after breaking his toe, and has yet to pencil in a new date and opponent.
But UFC veteran Mike Brown is convinced that McGregor will now never return to combat sports after his injuries.
“I was never confident before that he would [come back],” Brown said.
“It didn’t shock me when I saw he was out of this fight [with Chandler]. No, I’m still on that same train — he’s not ever coming back.
“I say the same thing I said before, I hope he proves me wrong. I hope I’m wrong.
” I would like to see Conor fight again. I would like to see him do a real training camp with real training partners, push himself hard, go back to the great Conor that he was before.
“I would love to see that. I think a lot of people would love to see that. It’s not happening.”
