‘Raiders wouldn’t dare’ – Davante Adams could be perfect answer for Chiefs, but Maxx Crosby’s intense rivalry could stop blockbuster trade

Where is Davante Adams going?

That has become the NFL question of the week, now that the Las Vegas Raiders appear ready to move the disgruntled veteran wide receiver.

With the New York Jets preparing for a London matchup against the undefeated Minnesota Vikings on Sunday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Adams has been linked with an Aaron Rodgers reunion.

Adams, 31, was drafted by Green Bay and spent his initial eight seasons with the Packers.

But while the Jets are an uneven 2-2, and Rodgers is going back and forth with New York head coach Robert Saleh, the NFL’s other remaining undefeated team is in serious need of reinforcements at wide receiver.

The reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs are 4-0 but barely winning games as injuries pile up.

Patrick Mahomes has already lost Rashee Rice and Hollywood Brown, while Travis Kelce needed four games to get into his normal Pro Bowl form.

Adams has 890 career catches for 10,990 yards and 96 touchdowns, and Las Vegas is open to dealing the six-time Pro Bowler.

Giving Adams to Mahomes midseason would instantly boost the Chiefs’ chances of a historic Super Bowl three-peat.

But there are two huge roadblocks to that league-changing scenario.

One is the fact that Kansas City plays in the same division as Las Vegas, which means that the Chiefs and Raiders face each other at least twice a year in the AFC West.

“The Raiders wouldn’t dare,” one fan tweeted.

Then there’s the other side of the ball.

The biggest personal rivalry in the NFL in 2024 is Maxx Crosby versus Mahomes.

If Adams were to suddenly become a Chief, Crosby would watch his team trade away a valuable offensive asset for a future draft pick — and give Mahomes a much-needed new weapon.

On paper, the Chiefs could be the best landing spot for Adams.

The 11th-year wideout would almost be guaranteed to reach the playoffs, and he has the big-play talent that Mahomes loves.

Tyreek Hill, who also appears frustrated in Miami, is another trade option for the Chiefs.

But while Hill has a past connection with Kansas City — the speedy receiver played for the Chiefs from 2016-21 and won a Super Bowl with Mahomes — the current on-field divide between the Chiefs and Raiders makes an Adams trade to KC almost impossible.

“The Chiefs would need to give us three 1st round picks and six 2nd round picks,” one fan tweeted.

“Might be the most improbable thing to happen in the NFL,” a second fan posted.

“Unless the Chiefs offered Mahomes as a part of the trade, this wouldn’t happen,” a third fan wrote.

Crosby and Mahomes share mutual respect.

But the intense Raiders defender also has gone out of his way several times to try and get in Mahomes’ head.

“He’s got multiple MVPs and Super Bowls,” Crosby said. “At the end of the day, if we want to win, we’ve got to take him down. We’re not shy about that.

“He knows that every time I play him, every time I see him, I’m trying to ruin his day. That goes for everybody. People can take that whatever they want or whatever, but he knows I’m coming for him.

“I’m on that energy every time and I know my teammates are, as well. It’s not malicious or whatever. People are trying to say we’re trying to purposefully injure him or whatever. It’s a bunch of BS.

“We play the game the right way but we play it with ill intent. We play violent and fast, and we plan on doing that for years to come.”

Adams to the Chiefs makes a ton of football sense.

The only problem is that two intense NFL rivalries are standing in the way of a blockbuster trade.
